The DJ

The DJ plays music inside 8gent. It lives in the footer as 8GENT FM and opens into a deck that shows what is playing.

Set up

The DJ uses four small tools. Install them once:

On Windows, the same tools come from Scoop: scoop bucket add extras; scoop install mpv yt-dlp ffmpeg sox.

/dj doctor shows which of them it can find.

Play

/dj play boards of canada roygbiv     # search and play a track
/dj radio jazz                         # tune an internet radio station
/dj produce house                      # generate a 60-second loop locally

Radio presets: lofi, chill, jazz, classical, rock, metal, edm, techno, house, dnb, hiphop, ambient, and more. /dj presets lists them all. Anything else is searched as a station name.

The deck

While a track is loaded the deck shows the title, the artist, elapsed and total time, volume, and the track's key:

• Key: A minor when the source names it
• Key: A minor (est.) when 8gent estimated it from the audio, locally
• Key: unknown when the estimate is too weak to trust. It never guesses

Ctrl+D collapses the deck to one line and back. Your choice is remembered. /dj close and /dj open do the same.
