Using 8gent
Sessions and memory
Pick up where you left off, fork a conversation, export it, and what 8gent remembers between sessions.
Resume
Every conversation is saved to ~/.8gent/sessions/ as you go. Ctrl+C saves before quitting.
| From a shell | What it does |
|---|---|
8gent --resume | Resume the last session |
8gent --resume=<name> | Resume a named session |
8gent --continue <id> | Resume a session by id or name |
8gent --name=<name> | Start a named session |
8gent session list | Recent sessions (--limit=N, --json) |
8gent export --last | Export the last session as a self-contained HTML file |
| In the workspace | What it does |
|---|---|
/resume | Pick from the last five sessions |
/continue | Continue the most recent session |
/history | Browse all past sessions |
/session name <name> | Name this session |
/export | Export this session as HTML |
Shape the conversation
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/compact | Summarise and compress this conversation to free context |
/fork [label] | Fork the conversation at the current message |
/branch | List or switch branches (/branch switch <id>) |
/rewind [n] | Rewind the agent's state to an earlier checkpoint (/rewind list) |
/clear | Clear the screen |
Memory
8gent keeps a local memory in SQLite under ~/.8gent/memory/. The agent stores and looks up facts with its remember and recall tools. You can do the same:
8gent memory remember "API uses JWT with RS256"
8gent memory recall "auth"
8gent memory forget <id>
8gent memory statsNothing in memory leaves your machine.
